Exploration & Fog of War

Otter Camp features a fog of war system that rewards exploration. Undiscovered areas are shrouded in fog, encouraging you to venture out and discover new regions.

Fog of War Basics

• Camp Hub - The starting area is always visible (no fog)
• Exploration Zones - 8 regions surrounding the camp, initially covered in fog
• Locked Zones - 3 future expansion regions, unlockable via DAO funding

Fog States

Exploring New Regions

Using the Dock

1. Visit the Dock at the northern edge of Camp Hub
2. Interact with the Dock to see available swim destinations
3. Select a destination to "swim" to that exploration zone
4. Your otter will swim to the new area, automatically clearing the fog

Discovering Areas

• Fog clears permanently when you enter a region for the first time
• Your exploration progress is saved and persists between sessions
• The world map also updates to show discovered areas

Co-op Member Benefits

As a co-op member, you receive Community Exploration Assist:

• When other members explore an area, the fog becomes partially transparent for you
• The more members who have explored an area, the more visible it becomes
• At 100% community exploration, you can see 90% of an unexplored area
• Non-members do not receive this benefit and must personally explore each area

Community Fog Formula

For co-op members viewing unexplored areas:

• 0% of members explored = 100% fog (fully opaque)
• 50% of members explored = 55% fog
• 100% of members explored = 10% fog (90% visible)

Region Unlocking

Some regions are locked and require DAO funding to unlock:

• Northern Wilds - 100,000 DOM tokens
• Frozen Peaks - 150,000 DOM tokens
• Eastern Frontier - 200,000 DOM tokens

Unlocking Process

1. Create a governance proposal to fund a new region
2. Members vote on the proposal at the Quest Board
3. If approved, the Treasury releases funds to unlock the region
4. A notification appears when the region is unlocked
5. All players can now explore the newly unlocked area

World Map Fog

The world map (M key) reflects your exploration state:

• Discovered regions appear normally
• Unexplored regions show fog overlay
• Community-explored regions show gradient fog (members only)
• Locked regions display a crosshatch pattern
• The Dock is marked with a blue square icon

Tips

• Explore systematically to discover all regions
• Check the Dock for available swim destinations
• Co-op members should coordinate exploration to help each other
• Propose new region unlocks at the Quest Board when the community is ready
