Folder Organization

Organize your documents into folders to keep your workspace tidy and find documents easily.

Creating Folders

There are two ways to create a folder:

From the Toolbar

  1. Click the folder icon (with plus) in the workspace toolbar
  2. Enter a folder name in the modal
  3. Click Create to create the folder at the root level

From a Context Menu

  1. Right-click on an existing folder
  2. Select New Folder
  3. Enter a folder name
  4. The new folder will be created inside the selected folder

Moving Documents into Folders

Drag and Drop

  1. Click and hold the grip handle (six dots) on the left side of a document
  2. Drag the document over a folder
  3. The folder will highlight when you can drop
  4. Release to move the document into the folder

Moving Between Folders

You can drag documents:

  • From one folder to another
  • From inside a folder to the root level
  • Between nested folders at any depth

Expanding and Collapsing Folders

Click to Toggle

Click on a folder row to expand or collapse it. When expanded, you'll see all documents and subfolders inside.

Chevron Button

Click the chevron icon (>) next to a folder to expand it without selecting. Click again (v) to collapse.

Expand/Collapse All

Use the toolbar buttons to:

  • Expand All: Show all nested content
  • Collapse All: Hide all nested content

Folder Hierarchy

Folders can be nested to create a hierarchy:

My Workspace
├── Projects/
│ ├── Project Alpha/
│ │ ├── Requirements.md
│ │ └── Design Notes.md
│ └── Project Beta/
│ └── Kickoff Notes.md
├── Meeting Notes/
│ ├── Weekly Standup.md
│ └── Quarterly Review.md
└── Ideas.md

Visual Indentation

Each nesting level adds indentation so you can easily see the document hierarchy at a glance.

Folder Actions

Right-click on a folder to access these actions:

ActionDescription
RenameChange the folder name
New FolderCreate a subfolder inside this folder
New DocumentCreate a document inside this folder
DeleteMove the folder to trash (documents inside are also trashed)

Tips for Organizing

  1. Use descriptive names: Name folders by project, date, or topic
  2. Keep it shallow: 2-3 levels of nesting is usually enough
  3. Group related items: Keep documents that belong together in the same folder
  4. Archive old work: Create an "Archive" folder for completed projects

Troubleshooting

Cannot Drop Here

If you see a "Cannot move" message, you may be trying to:

  • Drop a folder into itself
  • Drop a parent folder into one of its children (circular reference)

Move the item to a different location instead.

Document Disappeared

If a document seems missing, check:

  1. Collapsed folders - expand them to see contents
  2. Trash - the document may have been deleted
  3. Use the search function to find it by name
