Document Templates
Templates help you quickly create new documents with pre-defined structure and content. Use system templates for common formats or save your own documents as reusable templates.
Using Templates to Create Documents
From the New Document Dialog
- Click the New Document button in your workspace
- Select Use Template (instead of Blank Document)
- Browse or search for a template
- Click on a template to select it
- The title field will pre-fill with the template name (you can change it)
- Click Create to create your document
Template Preview
When selecting a template, you'll see:
- Template name and description
- Content preview showing the first few lines of the template
- System badge for built-in templates
Search and Filter
Use the search bar to find templates by:
- Template name
- Description
- Content keywords
Built-in System Templates
FounderyOS includes these system templates to get you started:

| Meeting Notes | Structured format for attendees, agenda, discussion, and action items |
| Project Brief | Project overview with objectives, scope, timeline, and stakeholders |
| Weekly Review | Reflect on accomplishments, challenges, and plan for next week |
| Daily Journal | Morning gratitude, daily focus, and evening reflection |
System templates cannot be edited or deleted.
Saving Documents as Templates
Turn any document into a reusable template:
From the Document Context Menu
- Find the document you want to save as a template
- Click the three-dot menu (or right-click) on the document
- Select Save as Template
- Enter a template name (defaults to the document title)
- Optionally add a description
- Click Save Template
What Gets Saved
When you save a document as a template:
- The entire document content becomes the template content
- Original document remains unchanged
- Template is saved to your personal templates
Managing Your Templates
Viewing Templates
- Open the Workspace
- Click the Manage Templates option (or access from settings)
- View all templates organized by:
- System Templates - Built-in templates (read-only)
- My Templates - Templates you've created
Template Details
For each template, you can see:
- Template name and description
- Usage count (how many documents created from it)
- Content preview (click the eye icon to expand)
Deleting Templates
To delete a template you've created:
- Open template management
- Find the template you want to delete
- Click the trash icon
- Confirm deletion in the dialog
Note: System templates cannot be deleted. Documents created from a deleted template are not affected.
Template Variables
Templates can include placeholder variables that get replaced when you create a document:

For example, a template with # Meeting Notes - will create a document with # Meeting Notes - 1/27/2026.
Tips for Using Templates
- Start with system templates: Try the built-in templates to see the format
- Customize for your needs: Create documents, modify them, then save as your own templates
- Use descriptive names: Name templates clearly so you can find them later
- Add descriptions: Help future you remember what each template is for
- Keep templates general: Templates work best when they're adaptable to different situations

Troubleshooting
Template Not Appearing
If a template you created isn't showing:
- Refresh the page
- Check if you're in the correct workspace
- Make sure the template was saved successfully (you should have seen a confirmation)
Cannot Delete Template
If you can't delete a template:
- System templates cannot be deleted (they show a "System" badge)
- Only templates you created can be removed
Template Content Looks Wrong
If a document created from a template has unexpected content:
- The template may have been updated since you last saw it
- Check the template preview before creating
- Variable placeholders (like
) are only replaced when creating, not in previews
